Anatomy of a ribbon

Take it apart. Every piece was made.

A ribbon on an X Challenge medal is four separate pieces put together. It is not a printed strip with a sticker on it.

  1. 01

    The band

Woven fabric, coloured to the collection. Sized so the medal rests just below the sternum.

  2. 02

    The plate

A metal plate stitched to the band, giving the ribbon a hard edge and a place to seat the emblem.

  3. 03

    The emblem

A cast emblem, specific to the medal — not a printed sticker, not a decal.

  4. 04

    The rail

The rail the ribbon hangs from, connecting the ribbon to the medal itself.

Shown above: the Thor strap from the Legends of Asgard collection. The Four Holy Beasts straps are built differently — patterned cloth in each beast's colour, without the woven emblem and plate — so there is no equivalent set of layers to take apart. Both are finished products, not two stages of one.

A short chronology

The record — December 2024 to now.

A small brand, told through the medals it has actually shipped — in the order they were made.

  1. December 2024

    The idea starts.

A conviction that a virtual race could send back something better than a plastic disc, and the first sketches of what that better thing would look like.

  2. 2025

Thor ships — the first challenge.

Thor is the first medal we cast: a twenty-one-kilometre distance, and the opening chapter of the Legends of Asgard collection.

    • Thor medal, front face — hammer relief on double-sided solid-cast metal
  3. 2025

    Loki and Odin follow.

Loki (five kilometres) and Odin (ten kilometres) complete the Norse trio. Each has its own ribbon and its own themed presentation box; the collection is now three challenges wide.

    • Loki medal, front face — serpent motif on double-sided solid-cast metal
    • Odin medal, front face — winged crest on double-sided solid-cast metal
  4. Early 2026

    The Four Holy Beasts revealed.

A second collection turns to Eastern mythology — Dragon (179 km), Phoenix (139 km), Turtle (68 km) and Kylin (88 km). The medals are made, the distances are set, and the collection is open for entry.

    • Dragon medal, front face — dragon relief on double-sided solid-cast metal
    • Phoenix medal, front face — phoenix relief on double-sided solid-cast metal
    • Turtle medal, front face — turtle shell relief on double-sided solid-cast metal
    • Kylin medal, front face — kylin relief on double-sided solid-cast metal
