The phoenix is the one that comes back. In East Asian myth it is not a bird of disaster but a bird of peace — it appears when the world is worth appearing in, and it carries grace, virtue and renewal on its wings. The front opens those wings in flame-orange enamel with blue caught in the tail.
The reverse keeps only two things: one plume from the bird that was, and the egg of the one that follows. That is the entire cycle in two objects. One hundred and thirty-nine kilometres across sixty-eight days closes the virtual running challenge collection — sixty-eight is a lucky number too, the one that reads as blessing turning into fortune. By the time you finish it you are not the runner who started it, which is more or less the point.
Two faces
Finished on both sides. Neither face is a stamp of the other.
Its own ribbon
Every guardian is given a ribbon dyed to the enamel it carries — burnt orange for the phoenix. This is the exact weave, at full width.
